Joe and Wislande Edmond

Joe and Wislande Edmond

It is with shock and grief that we must report the murder of Pierre Joseph Edmond, known to us all as “Haiti Joe.” Joe was Haitian Island Ministry’s man in Haiti, and our close personal friend. He was shot and killed Friday evening, January 3, 2014, after Steve had sent the money for teachers’ pay to Haiti. Joe was careful to vary his routine, going to different locations to pick up money for obvious reasons, but apparently someone was watching him. At this time, we have no other details.

“Haiti Joe” started working with Haitian Island Ministries during the summer of 1998 as a translator. Eventually, Joe started his own school under Haitian Island Ministries’ sponsorship. Joe acted as the local operations coordinator for Haitian Island Ministries, keeping tabs on all the schools and feeding programs, and relaying information back to the US as necessary.

Joe is survived by his wife Wislande and three children, including two who attend the school he operated and one in higher grades.

Haitian Island Ministries is a small mission, and Joe was the local face of HIM. We will miss him terribly. HIM will pay for the burial costs, which will run about $2,000. If you would like to help, please contact us:

Steve and Terry
