A letter of thanks, well overdue!
First, both of us want to thank all of you who called, came by, or helped Terry during the time I (Steve) was in Haiti during and after the earthquake. I was able to call her minutes after it happened, but that was it until I was able to get into the Dominican Republic three days later. There were a couple of emails sent from the American Embassy that told her I was there, so she knew I was alive, but little else.
Then, less than two months later, a granddaughter was killed in a senseless car wreck. Two boys the girls had been going with decided they would scare the girls. One driving the girls’ car and one the boys’ car would meet and pass on the opposite side of the road. They didn’t get the cars far enough apart, and hit headlight-to-headlight traveling 70+ mph. Megan was thrown from the car and killed instantly. We again appreciate all who helped, got up in the middle of the night to come over, the cards and flowers .. everything you did. Those who decided to drive to southern Missouri to attend the funeral went above and beyond.
And finally, thank you to Wentzville Christian Church VBS, Matt and Stephanie Richards, Joe Smith, and all those who helped with the kids; and to the kids and parents who gave a record $3039.19 (in 2009 it was $2670, and in 2008 it was $2470). This money goes to fund a year of the feeding program for the village of Bayelle. In pre-earthquake Haiti, this program cost right at $2400 for one year. In post-earthquake Haiti, more kids are eating, meaning more money is needed, and once again a WCC VBS has provided that need.
The World Food Program said recently that a Haitian child (5 years or younger) dies every hour because of a lack of food in the stricken area of Haiti. Nothing more could be said to illustrate the need for feeding programs like ours.
Terry and I appreciate each of you for your help with personal things as well as all the help you provide in Haiti. Both of us feel very blessed to be a part of such a giving and loving church family.
Serving HIM together,
Steve and Terry
